Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Jonathan Tah on a free transfer following the expiry of his Bayer Leverkusen contract.
Tah has signed a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2029. When he will start playing for Bayern is yet to be seen, as Leverkusen are demanding a fee to release him from his contract early, to then allow Tah to feature for Bayern at the Club World Cup next month.
The two parties are not yet close to agreeing to a fee for the 29-year-old, and if they are unable to agree on one, Tah can join Bayern at the CWC on the 1st July, but with minimal preparation time.
Tah spent 10 years at Leverkusen, making 291 appearances for die Werkself. Under Xabi Alonso, Tah’s career gained a new trajectory, and not only did he play himself back into the national team, but he also played a key role in winning the Bundesliga (unbeaten) and the DFB-Pokal.
The Hamburg native’s move to Bayern will help fill the gap left by Eric Dier, who will move to Monaco on a free transfer. Strengthening a defence that is severely lacking in depth.
