Brest have confirmed the signing of midfielder Jonas Martin on a free transfer, via their official social media. The Frenchman has been a free agent since he and Lille mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
Following his contract termination, the 33-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Stade Francis-Le Blé. The former French U19 international made 13 appearances for Lille in all competitions last season. Martin was reportedly a target for Bordeaux too but has now completed a move to Brittany.
Upon signing for Brest, Martin said “Stade Brestois is the best project that came to me. My goal was to stay in Ligue 1 and, after talking with the club management, I quickly decided on moving to Brest to continue my career.”
Martin is Brest’s second arrival of the summer, following the loan signing of Martín Satriano from Inter. Eric Roy will be keen to bolster his squad for next season with the departures of key players like Franck Honorat to Borussia Mönchengladbach already confirmed. Last year, the team finished 14th in Ligue 1, notably winning four of their last six games.
