Inter Milan have announced the transfer of their defender Zinho Vanheusden to KV Mechelen on an initial loan deal.

The Belgian has been on the Nerazzurri’s books since joining their youth ranks in 2015 as a promising teenager.

However, the centre-back never managed to carve himself a place with the senior squad. Instead, he spent the last few years away from Appiano Gentile.

His ventures include three loan spells at Standard Liege, as well as stints at Genoa and AZ Alkmaar.

Following last season’s experience at Liege, Vanheusden will remain in Belgium, but this time at a new club.

The 24-year-old has now signed for Mechelen on loan. The Belgian top-flight club will have the option to buy the player at the end of the season, reveals Inter’s official statement which was published on the club’s website.

“FC Internazionale Milano announces the transfer of Zinho Vanheusden to KV Mechelen. The 24-year-old defender moves out on loan with an option to buy,” reads the official note.

The centre-back will be hoping to finally find himself home after constantly changing shirts over the past years. But in order to do so, he must prove his worth to convince his new club to purchase his contract.

However, if the Belgian club opts against maintaining the defender, the latter will return to Inter again next summer.

Vanheusden’s contract with the Nerazzurri is valid until the summer of 2026.

The Hasselt native represented Belgium across all age groups before finally earning his senior debut in October. Nevertheless, this remains his solitary international cap until this date.
