Aleksandar Kolarov underwent surgery this morning to remove a herniated disc, Inter have confirmed.

The Serbian defender has been unavailable for the Nerazzurri since returning from international duty in March, and now it appears there is an explanation.

Inter explained in a statement that Kolarov had an operation to remove the herniated lumbar disc at the Istituto Humanitas in Rozzano, Milan.

The procedure went perfectly to plan and Kolarov will begin rehabilitation ‘in the next few days’.

Kolarov’s last appearance for Inter came way back on February 9, when Antonio Conte’s side were held to a 0-0 draw at Juventus in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.

The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is widely expected to be released, having failed to impress since his move from Roma.

Kolarov has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Inter, with his only assist of the campaign coming during a 2-2 draw against Parma in October.
