Iker Muniain confirms he’s set to leave Athletic Club at the end of the current season. The player made the decision after winning the Copa del Rey, as he believes it is the perfect way to end his spell at the club.
The winger has been at the club for 15 years, making over 500 appearances in the process. Earlier today, the 31-year-old communicated his decision to not renew his contract to his teammates.
Muniain has become the second footballer with the most appearances in the red and white club’s history. The Navarrese will now continue his career away from Spain after debating in recent months about his future.
The La Liga side also announced that a farewell event and tribute to the great captain will be held in the near future. There are two games left in San Mamés against Osasuna and Sevilla, where Muniain is expected to receive a great reception from his fans.
However, before his farewell the Spaniard will continue to help his team achieve their goal of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
