Ligue 2 side USL Dunkerque has announced that Portuguese head coach Gonçalo Feio will fill their managerial vacancy. The Seasiders were in the market for a manager following Nantes’ successful pursuit of Luis Castro. Feio was a free agent after he failed to agree on a contract extension with Legia Warsaw. Nonetheless, the 35-year-old head coach had an impressive season in Poland.
Feio helped lead the club to a quarter-final berth in the UEFA Europa Conference League, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Chelsea FC. Feio’s trusted assistant coach Emanuel Ribeiro has also joined the Ligue 2 side, which lost to FC Metz in the Ligue 1 promotion preliminary play-off round. Dunkerque Director of Football Demba Ba said that Feio “will bring us even more passion than in the last two years, a lot of professionalism, and versatility. We will continue to see a dominant Dunkerque with the ball, but also capable of varying what we offer.”
