USL Dunkerque’s search for a new head coach begins again following yesterday’s announcement that the club and Gonçalo Feio have agreed to mutually terminate their agreement less than a month into his tenure.
The announcement was accompanied by a short statement signed by club presidents, Selçuk Demir and the former Newcastle United and Chelsea FC striker Demba Ba. It read, “The club would like to thank Feio and his assistant for their commitment and the work accomplished throughout their time in Dunkerque. The entire club wishes them every success in their continuing professional careers.”
The Portuguese manager had only been appointed as the replacement for Luís Castro on the 20th of June, with his fellow countryman taking up the hot seat at FC Nantes. Feio had been a free agent before temporarily taking the reins at Les Maritimes, after he was unable to agree on a contract extension with Legia Warsaw.
Feio oversaw only one full season with the Polish club, but the brief stint was successful. He even led them to a pyrrhic victory over Chelsea FC in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League clash.
