Genoa have officially completed the signing of Italian striker Andrea Pinamonti on loan with an option to buy from Sassuolo, following their relegation at the end of last season.
The Grifone have agreed to pay the Neroverdi a fee of €2m to bring the 25-year-old on board for the 2024-25 season, and will then pay a further €14m to make the move permanent at a later date.
Pinamonti has been signed in time to join the team for their clash against reigning Serie A champions Inter on the opening day of the league season on Saturday, but given the timing of his arrival, it is unlikely that he will be fielded as a starter.
Pinamonti arrives following Genoa’s sale of Italy international Mateo Retegui to Atalanta, while his 2023-24 strike partner Albert Gudmundsson had a medical with Fiorentina on Friday.
It is a return to the club for Pinamonti, who spent the 2019-20 season there on loan. Genoa also made the move permanent in the summer of 2020, only for Inter to buy his rights back immediately afterwards.
“Andrea Pinamonti is a Genoa player. The Sassuolo striker, born in Cles, in the province of Trento arrives on loan with an option to buy,” Genoa wrote in a brief statement.
They continued: “Raised in the youth sectors of Chievo and Inter, he has scored 43 goals in professional league competitions over his career. Welcome back to Genoa, Andrea!”
