SC Freiburg attacker Noah Weißhaupt’s loan out to Legia Warsaw has been officially confirmed. The deal to send the former Germany U21 international to famed German footballing administrator Fredi Bobic in Poland has been in the works since the weekend. In the end, Weißhaupt’s Bundesliga outfit opted to loan the 23-year-old out to the Ekstraklasa with a purchase option.
Weißhaupt currently maintains an estimated market value of €5m, down from a peak of €7m in December of 2023. As his number of club appearances declined, Weißhaupt’s value fell to a nadir of €3.5m in December 2024. Weißhaupt – loaned out to St. Pauli last spring – was able to string together some success. The Kiezkicker nevertheless declined to purchase him permanently.
Freiburg look to part company with another promising young German footballing talent who has been struggling to find his feet recently before the day is out. Weißhaupt’s fellow Germany U21 international Merlin Röhl is due to move Merseyside after passing an Everton medical.
“I’m very pleased that I signed a contract with Legia,” Weißhaupt remarked in his introductory club statement. “It’s the biggest club in Poland. I think it’s a great step in my career. I’ve seen the stadium and the fans – they’re amazing! I’m happy to be here.”
