AJ Auxerre will add another defensive piece to their team down the stretch of the Ligue 1 campaign.

The day after passing his medical exam, the club officially announced the signing of Fredrik Oppegård (22), with the ex-PSV defender committed to AJA until 2028.

The Norwegian left-back’s transfer is valued at €700,000, according to L’Équipe.

He joined PSV in 2020 but had been loaned to Dutch sides Go Ahead Eagles and Heracles Almelo during his time with the 25-time Eredivisie champions.

Oppegård joins an Auxerre side going through its share of struggles over the past couple of months, with Christophe Pélissier’s men winless in eight consecutive matches across all competitions and sitting 11th in the Ligue 1 table.

So far this season, Oppegård has made just six appearances for Peter Bosz’s side, while playing in one of their UEFA Champions League contests.

During his time at PSV, the former Norwegian youth international had been a part of two Johan Cryuff Shield victories (2022 and 2023), along with a KNVB triumph in 2022-23.

The 22-year-old will see a familiar face when he officially arrives at Auxerre, with fellow defender Ki-Jana Hoever (23) joining AJA on loan from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in January. Hoever and Oppegård were teammates at PSV.

Oppegård’s contract at Eindhoven was set to expire this summer.
