Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced that midfielder Florian Neuhaus has extended his contract at the club until 2027.

The 26-year-old’s contract was set to expire next summer, but the extension means Gladbach will not be forced to sell the midfielder this summer. On Neuhaus’ extension, sporting director Roland Virkus said: “Flo came to us as a talented, young player and has developed into a seasoned Bundesliga player with national team experience, So a typical Borussia player. We are pleased that he has clearly known to us with his contract signature and that his footballing class will be preserved.”

Neuhaus joined Gladbach in 2017 from 1860 Munich, and he would spend the next season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf. On his return to Gladbach, the 26-year-old became a key part of the team and has played 172 games for Gladbach since.

Last season, Neuhaus’ season was marred by injuries. The 26-year-old missed nine games at the end of the year with damage to his cruciate ligament and it took him several games to get back to match fitness.

Neuhaus will likely be another key figure in Gladbach’s rebuild as they look to not only improve on last season but deal with the departures of key players such as Lars Stindl (Karlsruhe), Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan), Ramy Bensebaini (Borussia Dortmund) and Jonas Hofmann (Bayer Leverkusen).

It is entirely possible that the 26-year-old will be given a greater leadership role this season due to Gladbach’s summer departures meaning he can eventually grow into a key figure in the dressing room.
