Bundesliga side FC Köln have today announced the signing of 25-year-old midfielder Max Meyer on a 6-month contract.
The former Crystal Palace midfielder joins on a free transfer after all parties agreed to the mutual termination of his contract this month.
“The change to Köln was only possible because Max was extremely accommodating to us financially,” said sporting director Horst Heldt. “He can be used in several positions in midfield, he is intelligent and is very good on the ball. Max wants to bring that to us by the end of the season and provide his qualities in the Bundesliga once again.”
A former Schalke player, he came through their famed Knappenschmiede academy, playing 192 games for the Royal Blues, scoring 22 and creating 23 goals in all competitions.
Meyer and now Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka developed an incredible understanding during the 2017/18 season, helping Schalke finish runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
The German becomes FC Köln’s second signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis on loan until the end of the season.
