VfB Stuttgart have announced the signing of Bosnian striker Ermedin Demirovic who joins from fellow Bundesliga side Augsburg.
Demirovic joins for €21m and signs a contract at the MHP Arena until 2028. On moving to Stuttgart, the Hamburg-born striker said:
“I am very happy to be here at VfB. I can’t wait for it to start. After the game in Stuttgart, I became a fan of this team. I like the way of playing and the team. I know some guys, so it probably won’t take me too long to settle in here.”
The signing of the 26-year-old makes him Stuttgart’s record signing beating Nico Gonzalez’s record from 2018 when he joined for €11.26m.
Last season was the best of Demirovic’s career as he scored 15 goals and assisted nine as Augsburg finished 11th in the Bundesliga. The Bosnian will now have the chance to play in the Champions League.
For Stuttgart, they at least have one out-and-out striker they can rely on this season. Currently, Sehrou Guirassy’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund is on hold due to an unexpected injury, while Stuttgart continue to negotiate to keep Deniz Undav at the club permanently.
Despite coming into Champions League money, apart from the signing of Demirovic, VfB have not deviated from their strategy, like what happened at Union Berlin. This summer, Stuttgart have made use of free transfers (Nick Woltemade, Justin Diehl and Yannick Keitel), loans (Fabian Rieder and Frans Krätzig) and cheap fees (Julian Chabot, Leonidas Stergiou, Jamie Leweling, Anthony Rouault and Ramon Hendriks) to prepare themselves for European football next season.
