Eintracht Frankfurt have announced that Dino Toppmöller will replace Oliver Glasner as the club’s new head coach.

The 42-year-old has recently worked as the assistant to Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig and then at Bayern Munich. However, prior to that Toppmöller had been a head coach in Luxembourg where he took F91 Dudelingen to the Europa League, becoming the first side from the country to do so.

Speaking upon the appointment Eintracht sporting director Markus Krösche said: “It was only a matter of time before Dino Toppmöller became head coach in the Bundesliga. We are happy to have won him over with his expertise, his profound understanding of football and his high level of interpersonal skills. In recent years he has been able to gain valuable experience and celebrate success in various functions.”

Krösche would comment on Toppmöller’s experience: “Dino has learned to achieve great things in Dudelingen with few means and to take young, developing players to the next level as the main head coach,” before adding: “I’ve followed Dino’s path for a long time and in Leipzig I was able to get an idea of his way of working, which is characterized by a high level of tactical understanding and analytical skills. It was no surprise that Julian Nagelsmann took him to Bayern Munich. He still has a very good reputation there, too.”

Toppmöller would then speak about his appointment: “Eintracht Frankfurt’s development in recent years has been impressive. Because of my past, I’ve always had a special relationship with Eintracht and have constantly followed the club’s path. I am all the more pleased to be part of Eintracht again and would like to drive positive development forward with my coaching team, the team and all the employees in the club. Discussions with Markus Krösche and Timmo Hardung were always trusting and constructive.”

The 42-year-old would continue by saying: “The path we have taken suits me, we have the same idea of football. In 2003, as a player, I was allowed to stand on the pitch in what was then the Waldstadion in the 6:3 win over Reutlingen and celebrate promotion. Coming back as head coach to this club with its great emotionality and its unique fans in the heart of Europe is both an honour and a challenge for me. I am sure that we will continue to experience great football festivals together in the future.”

Toppmöller will take over a side that has been left in a positive place after the work achieved by previous head coach Oliver Glasner. Toppmöller will look to push Die Adler back up the Bundesliga table to fight for Champions League qualification, however, as to whether key players Randal Kolo Muani and Jesper Lindstrøm is yet to be decided.
