Reims have this afternoon announced that midfielder Dion Lopy has left the club on a permanent transfer to join La Liga club Almería, having spent three seasons with the Champagne club’s first team.

The Senegal international was initially signed back in 2020 off the back of an impressive U20 World Cup campaign with his national team, where the team narrowly missed out on a spot in the semi-finals after losing on penalties to South Korea after topping their group.

He will have made just over half a century of appearances during his time with the Ligue 1 side. Last season, he registered 2 assists in 29 league games, as Will Still-led team ultimately finished in 11th place despite an impressive mid-season unbeaten run.

According to L’Équipe, Reims will receive an initial €8m transfer fee for Lopy, with potential add-ons worth up to €2m on top of a 25% sell-on fee. He becomes the second player in as many years to switch Champagne for Andalusia, after El Bilal Touré – now at Atalanta – made the same move last summer.
