OGC Nice centre-back and former Brazil international Dante (39) has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with Les Aiglons, the club has announced. The skipper has played 243 games with Nice since his arrival in 2016 from Wolfsburg. “Extending again is a great source of pride”, said the 2013 Champions League winner with Bayern Munich. “I also feel a lot of gratitude. It’s also thanks to my teammates who challenge me every day. It makes me happy and constantly pushes me to think about how to help them progress.”

Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère has labelled Dante a role model, on and off the pitch, and described his latest contract renewal as an obvious choice. “We are very lucky to have him with us. He was always there for us and we will always be there for him.” Dante won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and two German cups. The Brazilian centre-back was part of the Bayern squad who completed a legendary sextuple in 2013, when the Bavarians added the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup to their domestic clean sweep. Dante will be 40 years old when his contract with Nice will expire in 2024.
