Como have officially signed Nico Paz from Real Madrid in a complicated deal, with Cesc Fabregas calling him ‘an exciting talent.’
The cost of the transfer is believed to be worth €6m, but Real Madrid retain 50 per cent of the sell-on fee, so effectively Como only half-own the player.
The Merengues also asked to retain a buy-back clause in case they want to return him to base.
“There has been a lot of interest in Nico from other clubs and not surprisingly,” Como coach Fabregas told the club website.
“Every minute he was given on the pitch last season with some of the best players in the world he took advantage of to show what he could do and made an impact.
“He’s an exciting talent, left-footed, great on the wing and in the middle and am looking forward to working with him.”
Paz turns 20 next month and already had his first call-up for the Argentina senior squad after representing them at Under-20 and Under-23 level, as he is the son of former Argentina international Pablo Paz.
He made eight senior appearances for Real Madrid and scored once, in the 4-2 Champions League win over Napoli in November 2023.
“It means a lot to me, I am very happy to be able to join this family,” Paz told the Como website.
“For me it’s a step forward in my career and I’m very excited to join this project. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
The player has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the newly-promoted Serie A side.
He is one of several additional signings for Como this week, including Maximo Perrone from Manchester City and former Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto as a free agent.
