Como have officially signed veteran left-back Alberto Moreno as a free agent following long spells at Villarreal and Liverpool. ‘I am very happy to add a new experience to my career.’

The player turned 32 earlier this month and put pen to paper on a one-year contract this afternoon, with an option to extend automatically for another season if certain conditions are met.

A product of the Sevilla youth academy, Moreno won the Europa League in 2024, spent five seasons at Liverpool that culminated in the Champions League victory, then another five years at Villarreal with one more Europa League trophy.

“I am very happy to be able to add a new experience to my career,” Moreno told the official club website.

“I arrive in a new league, and I will have to deal with a new team and a new language. I spoke with Fabregas and he was the first to show how much the club wanted me and the feeling was immediately great.

“Serie A is one of the best leagues in the world, with great players and teams with world-class history. We have to try to do the best we can in every game.”

Como are aiming high on the transfer market this summer following their promotion to Serie A, having been declared bankrupt only a few years ago.

Their signings include veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina, Alberto Dossena from Cagliari, Roma striker Andrea Belotti and soon Raphael Varane too.

Fabregas welcomes Moreno to Como

“Alberto is a fast, agile and technically gifted defender with great international experience, having played in top European competitions,” said coach Cesc Fabregas.

“His characteristics will certainly be useful to face a new and difficult championship and we are happy to welcome him.”

Fabregas was formally appointed the head coach of Como today, although it is a role he has basically held since last year.

He was unable to officially take the reins due to a lack of the necessary coaching badges, so was credited as assistant manager instead.
