EFL Championship side Middlesbrough FC have signed Clermont left-back Neto Borges (27), both clubs have announced. Following the Auvergne club’s relegation into Ligue 2, the Brazilian full-back was expected to leave for pastures new as he was entering his final contract year. Borges was elected GFFN’s left-back of the year in the 2022-2023 Ligue 1 campaign and featured 64 times for Clermont Foot 63 since joining the French club two years ago from KRC Genk as a free agent.
Middlesbrough were in the market for a left-back on the back of Alex Bangura’s Achilles injury sustained in preseason. “We’re really pleased to bring Neto in,” Boro head coach Michael Carrick said. “He’s got good experience, he’s a good character, and he’s a very good addition to our squad.” Borges has put pen to paper over a three-year deal with Boro and will wear the #30 jersey with the EFL Championship side.
