The Danish captain had several tests performed during his stay in the hospital to uncover the cause of his cardiac arrest on Saturday, and was fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrulator) yesterday.

He was in good spirits when he left the hospital, conveying his thanks to fans and the wider footballing community for their support:

“Thank you for the huge number of wishes. It was amazing to see and hear. The operation went well and I am fine despite the circumstances. It was great to see the lads after the big game they played yesterday. Nothing to say, I will cheer for them against Russia on Sunday.”

Eriksen is expected to remain in Denmark, where he will hope to recover alongside his family.

It is still unclear what the future holds for the Dane, with many questions about his future on the pitch, but the news has been met with a sense of relief and happiness among the footballing world.
