We’ve heard various takes on what the transfer fee is – Ben Jacobs reports today it’s £24m, and we’ve heard talk this week about a huge sell on fee, which puts Chelsea in position to make a decent profit on the

It’s another important sale for the Blues, who continue their impressive summer clearout. They’re now well into profit in this window, despite making important additions.

Aaron Anselmino is joining Dortmund on loan in an associated deal, although we’ve not heard anything about that being done just yet.

Chukwuemeka leaves Chelsea with many question marks

Ultimately, Carney leaves Chelsea with a major sense of “what if?” hanging over him.

After promising cameos in his first season, he looked to finally get his big break under Mauricio Pochettino, who really seemed to like the look of him. But the knee injury against West Ham, picked up shortly after scoring a superb goal, proved to be a turning point he couldn’t recover from.

While he was fit to play again by the end of last season, his window had closed, and Pochettino (then subsequently Enzo Maresca) didn’t seem too interested in seeing more of him.

We’ll never quite understand why there was such a rush to sell him last summer, rather than give him a chance ahead of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, for example, but it’s too late to speculate now.

He’s potentially a brilliant player and we think Dortmund is a great move for him to be able to reach his potential. We would be very surprised if we don’t see him back in the Premier League before long.
