Chelsea have officially confirmed the departure of Renato Veiga to Spanish side Villarreal after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues signed Veiga last summer in a deal worth €14m from Swiss side FC Basel, but he started just one Premier League game for the club.
Veiga spent the second half of the season on loan at Juventus, but the Italian giants opted against making the move permanent.
Veiga saw a move to Atletico Madrid fall through earlier this summer, but the Portugal international now has a new club.
After having a bid rejected, Villarreal agreed a deal with Chelsea worth around €30m for Veiga, plus a percentage of future sale, and the Blues have now officially confirmed his departure.
A short statement on the Chelsea website said:
“Renato Veiga has left Chelsea and completed a permanent transfer to La Liga club Villarreal.
“Veiga made 18 appearances for the Blues during the first half of last season, having signed from FC Basel in July 2024. The defender earned his first senior caps for Portugal while at the club.
“The 22-year-old joined Juventus on loan in January and featured 15 times for the Serie A side over the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
“We thank Renato for his efforts during his time at Chelsea and wish him well as he begins a new chapter in his career.”
Veiga will now begin a new chapter in Spain, and has signed a seven year contract with the La Liga side, whilst he’s become their club record signing.
With Veiga now gone, Chelsea are looking to sell another defender in Axel Disasi before the end of the transfer window.

Disasi has attracted interest from a number of clubs, but as of yet no official offers have come in for the Frenchman.
Bournemouth are the latest club to show an interest in Disasi, and whilst Chelsea would prefer a permanent sale, there’s a chance they could settle for a loan deal at this late stage of the window.
