Chelsea have finally confirmed the big rumours that were going around for the last couple of days via their official club website.
It was all very official down the lines of a club announcement, and it is actually nice that they have finally come out and confirmed all the talk that has been going around this week.
It was suggested last week that midfielder Enzo Fernandez might need to go ahead and have surgery on his hernia injury that has been bothering him for months. He’s been playing through it and there had been a discussion as to whether he was going to have the surgery right now, and then be available to play for Argentina in the Copa America this summer, or wait until the end of the season to have it so that Enzo can continue playing for Chelsea for the rest of this season.
Well, that decision has been made, and Chelsea have now confirmed that Enzo has had that surgery yesterday.
Enzo will now miss the rest of this season, andhe has also posted an image of himself after the surgery.
In a short but sweet statement by the club which got straight to the point, it read:
‘Enzo Fernandez has today undergone successful surgery on a groin issue and will now begin a period of rehabilitation, sidelining him for the remainder of Chelsea’s 2023/24 season.
‘The 23-year-old midfielder will work with the club’s medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham.’
He has clearly been effected by the injury this season because he has just not been on it at all compared to what we had seen of him before he joined, and even when he first came to Chelsea. There’s no doubt that there is a top player in there but the injury has clearly made him play in a restricted way and he has just not looked his best at all.
