Vitesse have announced the loan signing of Brighton goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.
Scherpen joined Brighton from Ajax last summer but was loaned out to KV Oostende in January having made just one appearance for the English club.
He returned there at the end of the 2021/22 campaign but hasn’t stuck around for long with Vitesse now bringing him to their club on a season-long loan.
“This feels like the best choice I could make at the moment,” the 22-year-old said.
“I know Vitesse as a beautiful and established club in the Eredivisie. I feel like I’m a good fit here; as a footballer, but also as a human being.
“Vitesse have not had the best start to the season, but we will do everything we can to get the points as quickly as possible. Of course, I hope to be able to contribute to that.”
“Kjell is a goalkeeper who can be there immediately,” said technical director Benjamin Schmedes.
Despite his relatively young age, he has the necessary experience and also has enough competition and training rhythm. Moreover, Kjell is very familiar with Dutch football, in particular with the Eredivisie.
“We were still looking for a certain type of goalkeeper and Kjell meets the desired profile with his height, range and appearance.”
