Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced the signing of Jonas Omlin from Montpellier for a reported €8m, the 29-year-old has signed a 4.5-year contract with the Bundesliga club until 2027.
Speaking about Omlin’s arrival, Gladbach Sporting Director Roland Virkus said: “We believe we have found a very good solution by signing Jonas Omlin. He is a very reliable goalkeeper who exudes confidence, is strong on his line and is good with the ball at his feet.”
Omlin joined Montpellier from Basel in 2020 and has played a total of 74 games for them during his 2.5 year spell in the south of France. He was one of Switzerland’s backup goalkeepers at the World Cup but never played a game.
He comes in as a replacement for Yann Sommer who joined Bayern Munich as a replacement for Manuel Neuer after the latter broke his leg while on a skiing holiday after the World Cup.
Borussia Mönchengladbach host Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday afternoon, but it’s unclear as to whether Omlin will make his debut against Xabi Alonso’s side. Marco Rose’s Gladbach sit eighth, but are just three points behind Borussia Dortmund, who occupy the UEFA Europa Conference League spot.
