Juventus announce their former defender, Leonardo Bonucci, won’t take legal action against the club after a tumultuous exit over the summer.

Bonucci had been frozen out of the squad during the pre-season so he was not allowed to play or train with his teammates.

He joined Union Berlin in September 2023 but said he would take legal action against the club that had disrespected him, not following the collective agreement between clubs and professional footballers.

However, his stance has changed so there will be no legal battle between the Old Lady and their ex-star.

“Leonardo Bonucci has withdrawn his arbitral appeal against Juventus FC, which has accepted the withdrawal,” Juventus said in an official statement on Thursday.

“This definitively resolves the dispute, with no financial consequences. Juventus and Leonardo Bonucci are fully satisfied with the outcome of this matter, which leaves intact the victorious moments and rapport built through the years.”

It is not entirely surprising as Bonucci said in December that he was no longer upset with the Bianconeri

“I am more serene now, not as upset as I was this summer, I have to go ahead,” he revealed.

“My time at Juventus was marvellous, I wanted to end my career there, but it didn’t happen. I always wanted the best for the team. I speak every week with many of my former teammates so this proves I was clearly an important figure inside the dressing room. A friend for experienced players and a point of reference for the young players.”

Bonucci scored 35 goals in 502 appearances with Juventus, winning eight Serie A titles.

He has already left Union Berlin, joining Edin Dzeko’s Fenerbahce in the 2024 January transfer window.
