Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.
The 26-year-old has joined the German champions as a free agent due to his contract expiring with the Saxony side this summer. Laimer has penned a four-year deal with Bayern which will see him remain in Bavaria until the summer of 2027.
Upon signing Laimer expressed his joy: “It’s a dream come true for me. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I will give everything for the club and the fans. FC Bayern always has the highest goals – just like me. I’m in the right place here. I’m only capable of giving 100 per cent, and that’s what I’ll put into every training session from day one. I can hardly wait.”
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was equally pleased with the recent signing: “We are delighted to have signed Konrad Laimer. He comes to us as a two-time DFB Cup winner – and together we will now hopefully celebrate many more great victories and titles here at FC Bayern.”
The Austrian international is a product of the Red Bull academy, featuring for FC Leifering and RB Salzburg before making the move to Leipzig in 2017. Since then, Laimer has made 190 appearances for Die Roten Bullen scoring 15 goals and collecting 19 assists to help the side lift back-to-back DFB-Pokal titles in the last two seasons.
His move to Bayern could prove controversial for the current midfielders in the dressing room in Bavaria. Ryan Gravenberch and Marcel Sabitzer were frustrated with their game time last season which meant the latter moved on loan to Manchester United.
Whereas, for Leon Goretzka, his poor season has left those in charge considering his importance to the side. However, Laimer has proved his ability and consistency in the Bundesliga and this will only strengthen Bayern as they hope to retain their Bundesliga title.
