Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye (20) has officially signed for Rennes, both clubs have announced. According to the La Liga giants, Stade Rennais’ outlay to lure the Senegal international rises to €10.3m. Barcelona also included a €25m buy-back clause and a 30% sell-on fee clause in the deal. Faye has put pen to paper over a four-year contract with Les Rouge et Noir. Faye underwent his medical this Saturday.
Stade Rennais were in the market for a centre-back following Arthur Theate’s loan move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. Faye was an undisputed starter for Barcelona’s reserve team. He was yet to make his competitive debut with the Blaugranes. Faye was notably advised to sign for Rennes by former club academy graduate and France international Ousmane Dembélé and Lovro Majer. “They both told me that this is the perfect club to keep progressing and that everything will be fine”, Faye said.
