Last Saturday was a memorable yet heartbreaking occasion for FC Barcelona wonderkid Dani Rodriguez.
The 19-year-old winger, having shone brightly for Barça Atletic after returning from a lengthy injury absence, made his first-team debut in the La Liga game against Real Valladolid, starting the game at Estadio Jose Zorrilla.
However, a moment of jubilation turned into one of disappointment for Dani as he had to be taken off in the 38th minute after suffering a shoulder injury on his debut.
Now, in an official statement, Barcelona have confirmed that Rodriguez will undergo surgery for a dislocated shoulder on May 15.
“Barça Atletic player Dani Rodriguez will undergo surgery on Thursday 15 May for a dislocated right shoulder, which he dislocated during the match between Real Valladolid and FC Barcelona’s first team,” the statement read.
“At the end of the operation, the Club will issue a new medical report.”
One of the most exciting talents at Barcelona, Rodriguez has been tipped for a bright future. The youngster had scored and assisted three goals apiece in ten games for Barça Atletic this season before his first-team debut and subsequent injury.
Once he makes his recovery, there is a very good chance that the 19-year-old will be a part of the first-team dynamics under Hansi Flick moving forward potentially starting with the pre-season tour of Asia in the summer.
