Heading into August, Barça were slated to face AS Roma, in the iconic Joan Gamper trophy. But as revealed by Barcelona’s official Twitter handle, Roma have withdrawn from the competition and have been replaced by PUMAS.

Also known as Club Universidad Nacional, PUMAS are regarded as one of the most prestigious teams in Mexico. They have been revealed as Barcelona’s opponent for the coveted trophy, with the game set to be hosted at renamed Spotify Camp Nou, on August 7.

It will be the first game for Barça at their newly renamed stadium before they eventually begin their La Liga campaign a week later.

Barcelona Femeni should take on Montpellier in the Joan Gamper trophy. The team, led by Jonatan Giráldez, are slated to face the French outfit on August 23, at the Estadi Johan Cryuff.

In the official statement, the club have revealed: “The difficulty of finding a Club with both a men’s and women’s team available for the dates in the calendar has prevented the two sides from playing on the same day for the 57th edition of the competition.”
