Having suffered an ACL injury during the win against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga last month, Barcelona jewel Marc Bernal has successfully undergone surgery, the club announced today.

As part of the official announcement, Barcelona also confirmed that the 17-year-old midfield gem is expected to be out for a period of one year.

“Marc Bernal, successfully operated on his injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus of the left knee by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of the Club’s Medical Services, at the Barcelona Hospital,” the statement from the club read.

“The expected recovery time is 12 months.”

Bernal, 17, was off to a brilliant start to what was his debut season with the Barcelona first-team setup.

Having impressed new manager Hansi Flick pre-season, the teenage La Masia prodigy carved out a place for himself in the midfield and proceeded to start each of the Catalans’ first three La Liga games.

However, the unfortunate ACL injury has brought an end to his season, with Bernal now staring at a year out of action, much like Gavi, who is expected to return to action in November – 12 months after rupturing his ACL.

Despite his long-time absence, Barcelona have tremendous confidence in Bernal and as a show of faith, the club are all set to renew his contract imminently.

We wish Bernal a speedy recovery!
