A few weeks after announcing that Barcelona will return to Spotify Camp Nou on August 10 for the Joan Gamper Trophy, the club have now confirmed that the game has been moved.
The Blaugrana made a grand announcement about a return to the club’s renovated stadium for next month, even before all the necessary licences and permits had been acquired.
And, as it turned out, the Catalans were unable to get all the requisite permits from the City Council to welcome the team and the fans back to Camp Nou. The Joan Gamper Trophy match will now be played at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
“FC Barcelona informs that it has suspended the first return match at the Spotify Camp Nou, which coincided with the celebration of the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 10,” the statement from Barcelona read.
“This decision is due to the fact that the necessary work to comply with the requirements of the Ordinance Regulating Municipal Intervention Procedures in Construction Works has made it impossible to complete the procedures required for the granting of the initial licence.”
“Due to the magnitude of the work carried out, the club was unable to meet all the conditions imposed by the regulations for obtaining this permit, despite its desire to open the Spotify Camp Nou stadium gradually and by sector.”
It further read: “The club continues to work in coordination with the Barcelona City Council and the relevant authorities to complete the necessary requirements and will inform members and fans of any updates regarding the date of its return to the stadium.
“It should be noted that this delay does not affect the repayment schedule for the Espai Barça project. Further details regarding the 2025 edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, which will be held at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, will be announced later.”
