Just three days after he received the green light from the medical team, FC Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has suffered yet another injury setback.

Barça manager Hansi Flick revealed that the 28-year-old had sustained an injury in training earlier today and the Catalans have now officially confirmed the same while providing more details of the player’s condition.

“During training this morning, the first team player Andreas Christensen suffered an injury to the soleus of his right leg. The expected recovery time will be approximately 4 weeks,” the statement from the club read.

The club’s update confirms that Christensen has had a relapse of his previous injury that had sidelined him for a month since late January.

The former Chelsea star had returned to training last week and received the go-ahead from the medical staff this past Wednesday, only to succumb to a fresh injury setback.

With Christensen expected to be out for another month, he will miss both the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clashes against Benfica, along with other key matches against Atletico Madrid (league and cup) and Girona, among others.

The Danish international has not played even once after a substitute appearance on the opening day of the season against Valencia.
