FC Augsburg’s decent start to the season is followed by two exciting transfers on deadline day. After confirming the permanent transfer of Swiss international Fabian Rieder, Augsburg have now finalized the deal to bring Ismaël Gharbi on loan from SC Braga.
The Paris-born midfielder was in the ranks of PSG before leaving the club as a free agent last year. After only a season in Portugal, he’s now on the move again as Augsburg sealed the deal on a loan deal that will have an “option to buy” at the end of the season.
“With Ismael, we have a strong offensive player. Despite his young age, he already has experience at the highest level. His strength in one-on-one and its flexibility will enrich our game decisively,” said Augsburg’s director of sports, Benni Weber.
“When the offer came from FC Augsburg, it was immediately clear to me that I wanted to seize this opportunity. It is an ambitious club, whose playing style fits me very well. I am very much looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga and want to lead the way with my mentality and creativity. I can't wait to meet the fans in our stadium,” said Gharbi.
According to Transfermarkt, the loan fee is €250k. Gharbi takes the number 11 in Augsburg. The 21-year-old will first travel to join the Tunisia national team, where he will meet his new teammate in Augsburg, Elias Saad.
