Bradley Ibrahim, a rising star from the Arsenal academy, has set sail for a new adventure in Germany, signing a permanent deal with Bundesliga 2 side Hertha Berlin.

The 19-year-old, who joined the academy in 2017, impressed with his versatility and leadership, captaining the Under-18s to the FA Youth Cup final last season.

While Ibrahim didn’t crack the first team, he did earn two substitute appearances in the Europa League group stage, showcasing his potential to manager Mikel Arteta. However, seeking more playing time and a quicker path to senior football, Ibrahim opted for a fresh start in Germany.

While his departure signifies the loss of a talented prospect, there’s a silver lining for Arsenal. The transfer includes “matching rights,” allowing them to bring Ibrahim back if another club makes a suitable offer. Additionally, a “healthy” sell-on clause ensures the Gunners benefit if he shines in Berlin.

This transfer represents a smart move for both parties. Ibrahim gets the first-team experience he craves, Hertha Berlin gains a promising young talent, and Arsenal secure their future interest in their former academy star. While bittersweet, Ibrahim’s move to Hertha Berlin opens a new chapter for him and leaves the door open for a potential return to the Emirates in the future.

“I was really happy about the interest from Hertha BSC. The club has a great history and gives young players the chance to establish themselves as professionals. I want to use mine and keep developing,” said Ibrahim after the move.
