Paris Saint-Germain have announced that private equity platform Arctos Partners will acquire a minority stake in the Ligue 1 club. Qatar Sports Investments will remain the majority shareholder of PSG. The club has added that QSI will continue to keep full operational control of all decisions at PSG and that Arctos will have no influence on any on-field sporting matters. According to L’Équipe, Arctos Partners will own a 12.5 % stake, driving up the club’s value to €4.25bn.

In their statement, PSG state that Arctos’ investment will go towards growing PSG’s operations and also supporting the Club’s strategic real estate initiatives, including relating to its stadium and the future development phases of PSG’s world-leading training centre at Poissy in suburban Paris. PSG and the City of Paris are currently in a stand-off regarding the future of Parc des Princes. The Ligue 1 champions want to buy their 48.000-capacity stadium to carry out expansion works, however, the City of Paris have no intention to sell their asset.

“We are entering the next phase of PSG’s growth”

“We are delighted to welcome Arctos into the Paris Saint-Germain family as a strategic partner and investor”, added PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi. “As a Club and institution, we are entering the next exciting phase of PSG’s growth and development, both on and off the pitch – which is based on long-term ambitions and attaining excellence in everything we do. Arctos is a fantastic partner to help us achieve our goals, bringing strategic expertise, ideas and innovation to our business while providing investment and new relationships to support our footballing and sporting goals.”

“The first time we visited the Club, we felt the magic of PSG and its deep connection to the city of Paris”, stated Arctos Partners co-founder Doc O’Connor. “Our investment in the Club fully aligns with our strategy of partnering with best-in-class teams across North America and Europe.”

Luis Enrique’s PSG are currently leading Ligue 1, but their qualification for the RO16 of the Champions League is not sealed yet. Les Parisiens will host FC Nantes on Saturday night before a make-or-break UCL group stage game at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.
