Amadou Koné (20) has departed Stade de Reims, joining recently promoted Saudi Arabian side Neom SC.
Despite Reims’ relegation to Ligue 2 last season, Koné, as well as midfield partner Valentin Atangana, finished the campaign with their reputations enhanced. The former, given Les Stadistes’ relegation, has been expected to leave and has garnered interest from across Europe.
He had been a target for recently promoted Premier League side Leeds United, as well as OGC Nice, who will participate in the qualifiers for the UEFA Champions League later this summer. Ultimately, however, he opted to join Neom, who will compete in the Saudi Pro League next season.
It is thought that the deal is worth around €12m. He is expected to be one of many names from Ligue 1 to join the Saudi side. Alexandre Lacazette’s move to the club is expected to be officialised imminently. Nice’s Marcin Bulka is closing in on a move, whilst Olympique Lyonnais’ Corentin Tolisso is also a target for the club.
