Mohamed Camara (24) has left AS Monaco to sign for Qatar Stars League side Al Sadd, both clubs have announced. The Malian international has reportedly signed a five-year deal with Al Sadd. Les Monégasques are set for a return of investment considering Al Sadd’s outlay to sign him rises to €20m. The defensive midfielder was signed from RB Salzburg two years ago in a €15m move as a replacement for Aurélien Tchouaméni (24), who left the Principality side for Real Madrid.
Camara featured 57 times for Monaco, logging one goal and five assists in two campaigns. The Mali international played a more peripheral role last season with Monaco recruiting Switzerland international Denis Zakaria (27). Camara’s spell in France ended in controversy. The defensive midfielder ostensibly covered up the league’s campaign against homophobia’s badge on his shirt with white tape, he also skipped a pre-match photo behind a sign that read “Homophobia Football” with a cross through the word homophobia. He was handed a four-game ban for his actions and also after refusing to take part in one or several awareness-raising activities in the fight against homophobia.
