Ajax have officially announced the signing of Carlos Borges from Manchester City. The Dutch giants hijacked West Ham United’s deal to sign the talented left-winger. Borges has signed a five-year deal with Ajax, with the club paying a fee that could rise to around €19m for the 19-year-old. Manchester City will have a buy back clause and sell on clause for 20%.
Carlos Borges has just experienced a super season with Manchester City’s U21s. The Portugal U19 international finished the campaign as the Premier League 2 top scorer, netting 21 times in 24 appearances. On top of that, he provided 11 assists. In all competitions last season, he scored 29 times and provided 18 assists in just 33 appearances. These are remarkable numbers from the teenager.
Ajax have been looking to boost their attack ahead of the new Eredivisie campaign. Maurice Steijn’s current selection seemed to be lacking firepower, so attackers were certainly a priority. Carlos Borges could turn out to be an excellent signing for the Dutch giants as they look to challenge for the title after last season’s disappointment.
