Official: AEK Athens confirm the signing of former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial | OneFootball

Greek side AEK Athens have officially confirmed the signing of former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

Martial departed United in the summer upon the expiry of his contract, which brought an end to a nine-year stay at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman grabbed 90 goals and 47 assists in 317 matches for the Red Devils.

He made 19 appearances across all competitions during his final season at the club, registering only two goals in the process.

Martial failed to find a new club during the summer window despite the fact he was a free agent.

He was heavily linked to Brazilian outfit Flamengo but it’s believed that transfer broke down due to his excessive wage demands.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that AEK Athens offered the 28-year-old the biggest contract they have ever given in their 100-year history.

It recently emerged that Martial finally agreed terms with the Greek giants. SPORT24 revealed that the forward was in line to earn £2.5million per season with AEK.

The news outlet indicated that he would sign a three-year deal, which would see him pocket up to £7.5m in total including bonuses.

AEK have now confirmed Martial’s arrival via their official social media handles.

The club were very busy during the window, welcoming the likes of ex-Tottenham Hotspur man Erik Lamela, former Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra and Brentford goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha to the Greek capital.

AEK were also keen on acquiring Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana on an initial loan with the option to purchase him at the end of his temporary spell, but talks broke down at the eleventh hour.

Martial will certainly be hoping to put his injury and consistency troubles behind him as he seeks to get his career back on track.
