Barcelona have officially confirmed that rising academy star Roberto Tomas has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The talented youngster, currently in his third season at La Masia, is considered one of the most promising players of his age group.

Roberto joined Barça’s youth setup with Infantil A and has made huge strides since then. Known for his versatility, he has played both as a striker (‘9′) and an attacking midfielder (’10’), scoring an impressive 21 goals in that debut year.

Rapid rise through the ranks

Although the normal path would have been to move from Infantil A to Cadet B, Roberto’s rapid development convinced the coaching staff to promote him straight to Cadet A.

Despite being younger than most of his teammates and opponents, he adapted brilliantly. He continued to perform strongly while switching between playing as a false nine and an attacking midfielder.

This season, Roberto has mostly featured for Juvenil B and occasionally stepped back in to help Cadet A when needed.

His goal tally remains impressive, having scored ten goals for Juvenil B and two more for Cadet A. Such numbers highlight his ability to consistently make an impact, regardless of the age group or position.

Looking ahead: Forward or midfielder?

As he begins his journey in the youth category proper next season, Roberto is expected to continue with Juvenil B, although a jump to Juvenil A can’t be ruled out if his progress continues.

Coaches still debate whether his long-term position will be as a pure forward or a creative midfielder, but what is clear is that he excels in both roles for now.

Barcelona have locked down a player who is progressing faster than expected, someone with the maturity and skillset to climb through the ranks swiftly. Roberto Tomas is certainly one to watch in the coming years.
