Former Celtic striker and Sky Sports pundit Chris Sutton has been cleared after complaints were lodged about a section of his commentary in Celtic’s 3-3 draw at Ibrox. Matt O’Riley scored an excellent penalty to go 2-0 ahead in the first half, which the Englishman made a comment about the nerves from the midfielder.

During his co-comms with Ian Crocker, Sutton remarked that it took huge confidence from the Dane to score in that fashion against Jack Butland.

“What a nerve from Matt O’Riley. Panenka. That is courageous. Celtic have not got a good record from penalties this season but you’ve got to have some balls to do that in this fixture.”

No doubt the complaints came from bitter Rangers supporters, who were not impressed by their side’s performance. An Ofcom spokesperson, via SunSport, dismissed the claim that this segment breached their rules.

“A brief remark made during the game’s commentary did not raise issues warranting investigation under our rules.”

Sky Sports will be relishing their role in the next few weeks in the remainder of the season as Celtic and Rangers battle for the league title. Brendan Rodgers’ side are three points clear at the top of the table with five games left.
