Of course Arsenal can now go on a long winning run – We’ve done it before

Who says we aren’t capable of going on a good run? Last time we had this poor run of form, we did!

It’s no secret that Arsenal are a team who look lost, currently we are without a win in the Premier League for the last three games since the last international break with our only wins in all competitions being against Championship side in Preston North End and an underwhelming one nil win against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UCL.

We have lost our last two games in a row in the Premier League and Champions League which leaves us 12th and 5th respectively in both competitions which you can imagine is not ideal for a club looking to finally win something major under Mikel Arteta.

This is the first time we’ve been on a poor run for a long while and it has been mainly because of our impotency in the attacking third and the injuries to some key players in that area has been the cause, with Martin Ødegaard the biggest miss in the last two months.

The fact that our frontline have all dipped in form barring Saka is also a big reason, all of Havertz, Martinelli, Trossard, Sterling and Jesus have failed to deliver when we need them the most, but Ødegaard’s return will surely help knit everything back together.

The last time we had a run similar to this was towards the end of last year into the new one, where we won just one out of seven games in all competitions in a run that stretched from the 9th of December 2023 to the 7th of January 2024. That run was poorer than the current one but one thing that helped us then was the mid season break in Dubai where we got rejuvenated.

We were so rejuvenated that we went on a pretty incredible run that brought us to the brink of the Premier League title. Our sensational away record that recently just got broken against Bournemouth was also started off the back of that poor run of form so if that’s the case who’s to say we can’t go on a similar run?

To do that firstly we’ll have to start getting the basics right in our attacking play. Basics in terms of NOT swinging in crosses like a team lacking Invention, but playing like a team with cohesion and a great understanding of our own principles and philosophy.

I don’t want to keep mentioning Ødegaard but he’s a key reason for our attacking fluidity, our right sided dynamics are just not the same without the Norwegian in the side and I can’t stress how important he’ll be in getting others back to their best. His absence has definitely affected Trossard and Havertz negatively with the latter the most affected given the amount of positions he has had to fill except his preferred center forward role.

I don’t know the likelihood of him starting, but his presence will be absolutely crucial to starting a good run of form with a win. We pulled through to go on a fantastic run the last time we had this sort of form so hopefully we can kick off another one win a very achievable win at the Stamford Bridge.

If we lose to Chelsea, will you all still be confident in us going on a really good run? Let me get your thoughts gooners!

BENJAMIN KENNETH.
