Mikel Arteta’s side moved back to the top of the table following their victory in the West Midlands, goals from Leandro Trossard and captain Martin Odegaard were enough to seal three points for the visitors. Wolves had a key chance of their own through Joao Gomes, but could not find the net.

Wolves came into the game with a heavily rotated side due to injuries, with Tawanda Chirewa making his full Wolves debut and 15-year-old Wesley Okuduwa named among the substitutes.

Arsenal controlled the ball at the start of the game, but the hosts looked threatening on the counter attack when they did win the ball back.

Arsenal were restricted in the box and had an effort from Declan Rice outside of the area, who came close, but did not test Jose Sa.

Joao Gomes forced David Raya into action in the first half when his shot was saved onto the post, however Wolves found themselves one nil down against the run of play shortly after.

Trossard was found inside the area, his sliced shot was too much for Sa as it creeped in off the post to give Arsenal the lead.

After the break, Wolves continued to search for a goal.

Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia and Rayan Ait-Nouri were all introduced onto the pitch to try and get the hosts on level terms.

However, it was Arteta’s side who got the goal, a swift Arsenal counter attack was denied by Jose Sa but at the second attempt Odegaard slotted the ball home for the visitors.

A game which Wolves will want to erase from their memory and have the chance to bounce back against Bournemouth on April 24, with a 19:45pm kick off at the Molineux Stadium against Gary O’Neil’s former employers.

Meanwhile Arsenal will return to the Emirates Stadium to host London rivals Chelsea on Tuesday April 23. Kick-off for that game is 19:30pm.
