Birmingham City and Coventry City target Jay Dasilva will only be allowed to leave Bristol City today if a replacement is signed, according to Bristol Live’s Rich Forrester.

The left-back has fallen behind Cam Pring in the pecking order at Ashton Gate and is out of contract in the summer so the Championship club could look to move him on now as they continue to trim their wage bill.

Birmingham are also said to hold a long-term interest in Dasilva but it is thought they’ve all but given up their pursuit – potentially due to progress the Sky Blues have made.

However, Forrester has claimed that the 24-year-old will only be allowed to leave the South West club before the transfer window slams shut if a replacement is brought in.

Dasilva signed permanently from Chelsea in a multi-million-pound deal in the summer of 2019, having impressed on loan in the 2018/19 campaign, and has made 131 appearances for City in all.

The Verdict

This looks like sound logic from a City perspective.

Pring has been excellent lately but Dasilva is the only other left-back in their squad and it would be a massive gamble to let him go without signing a replacement.

You can understand why they’re keen to move him on as they’ve been focussing on trimming their wage bill and the 24-year-old is on a reported £8,462 per week, which is around the middle of the club’s earners as per Capology.
