Oaktree are now Inter owners.

The US-based fund officially announced their intention to take over the Nerazzurri a couple days ago. And they have repossessed the controlling shares of outgoing owners Suning.

The question now is what Oaktree’s intentions for Inter are.

Over the last few years, reports have suggested that the fund have not been keen on the idea of permanently taking over from Suning at Inter.

However, the Gazzetta report, Oaktree are in no hurry to sell the club.

There is no buyer lined up immediately. Rather, the Gazzetta anticipate, Oaktree’s aim will be to keep hold of Inter, run the club to try and increase its value, and then carry out a sale.

Oaktree Targeting Inter Milan Champions League Glory

According to the Gazzetta, Oaktree will likely be at the helm of Inter for at least three years.

During that period, the US fund’s aim will of course be to combine success on the pitch with responsible spending.

And the Gazzetta name one ambition in particular as being important for Oaktree.

The fund want to see Inter go all the way in the Champions League – or at least enjoy another high-profile deep run in the competition as they did last season.

This campaign, Inter won the Serie A title, and with it, their second star. That was certainly a prestigious sporting result, and one which has enhanced the club’s reputation and brand.

But a deep run in the Champions League can always get the Nerazzurri even greater attention globally.

And actually winning the competition would be Oaktree’s dream as far as increasing the eventual sale price of Inter.
