NYCFC vs Orlando City SC: How to watch, time, and more as team needs goals

Article image:NYCFC vs Orlando City SC: How to watch, time, and more as team needs goals

New York City FC did not begin their road trip well when they lost to Charlotte FC over the weekend.  The Pigeons outplayed their opponent but could not score, losing 2-0.  They now have a quick turnaround, for the next match will take place in the Sunshine State against Orlando City SC.  Historically, the Boys in Blue have the slight edge with a 10-7-10 record.

In Orlando, NYCFC tends to struggle at Inter & Co Stadium.  It is not because they constantly lose, but rather, because winning there is a rare occasion.  They last won there in 2018, and since then, they have only lost once.  All of the other results ended in draws, with some ending in losses via penalty kick shootouts.  While there is a high chance the Bronx side will leave with a point, what they really need is a win.

Of course, if one has to choose between a draw and a loss, then it is easy to pick a draw.  Plus, Orlando has four more points than NYCFC at this time, so the Florida team is doing a little better.  That is why it is vital that the Pigeons are not shut out on the road again.  Players like Alonso Martínez and Hannes Wolf need to score, while everyone needs to contribute to the attack.  Moreover, Pascal Jansen should take the risk and put out a more offensive-minded lineup.

In addition, while Orlando is slightly better since they have fewer losses, NYCFC knows they can beat them.  The Boys in Blue won the opposite fixture, which happened to be the home opener.  It was not easy, but two goals in the second half led to the win.  Therefore, beating the Lions is possible.

Final Notes

Jansen will hopefully opt to go with an offensive Starting XI, especially with the backline.  With Birk Risa’s recent departure, Kevin O’Toole should get the start as the left-back, while Justin Haak should partner with Thiago Martins in the middle.  Then, Mitja Ilenič would be the best option to start as the right-back due to his ability to move forward and be threatening in front of the goal.
