After a not-so-great Leagues Cup run, New York City FC will resume Major League Soccer play when the Bronx team meets Nashville City SC in the Big Apple. During the last game between the sides, it felt like it would end in another road loss. But Hannes Wolf had other ideas when he scored his brace in the second half, stealing a point for his side.
For the upcoming match, the pressure is on for NYCFC to win. They need to win more to climb the table and put themselves in a position to compete in the MLS Cup Playoffs. With ten games to go, this will be a vital matchup. This could set the tone for the rest of the season. Nashville will not be an easy opponent, though, for they have superb players within their squad. The two biggest threats for the Pigeons will be Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge. The two players have scored the majority of the goals for the Tennessee side, which means the Pigeons will have to focus on stopping them.
The issue at hand as of late has been NYCFC’s defense. They have allowed too many goals. Likely, they would have given up more if not for Matt Freese, who continues to impress game in and game out. It will help that the team signed a new center-back, Raul Gustavo, but it is unknown when he will be available.
At least the Boys in Blue have the knowledge and confidence that they can compete with Nashville. Remember, they stole a point on the road last time. NYCFC will need the home crowd to help them get that extra goal to earn three points and a win.

Sunday’s game will be Yankees Night at Yankee Stadium. The Bronx team will celebrate the baseball team that has been a part of their story since the beginning. The team is a minority owner, and of course, the baseball stadium has been the main home since the team’s inaugural season. So, NYCFC will celebrate the team by having an evening with Yankee theming at a stadium full of Yankees-themed elements.
