For a moment, New York City FC fans thought they would watch the team lose the third game in a row at Yankee Stadium. Instead, the Boys in Blue had a second-half comeback against Chicago Fire FC to win 3-1 and end the two-game losing streak at their Bronx home. Now, they will try to win their second in a row and then the third match overall. To do that, they will have to beat Houston Dynamo FC in a midweek battle.
This season, the Dynamo enters the week in tenth place in the Western Conference with a 4-6-5 record. In the last five Major League Soccer fixtures, they are 2-2-1, while they are unbeaten in their last three. As NYCFC knows, the record can mean nothing, for when teams face one another, the past is the past. That is why they cannot sit back and must play the game like Houston is the top team in the league. After all, the Pigeons struggled in the first half against the Fire.
Meanwhile, the Boys in Blue will also want revenge. The last time the teams met was in 2023, and NYCFC lost 1-0 in Texas. In addition, the series in MLS is evenly split, 2-2-2. The Bronx side would like to take the lead while also not allowing the Dynamo to take points from them for a second game in a row.
The good news is that it looks like NYCFC has found their scoring boots. The Pigeons have scored five goals in their last two fixtures. Previously, there were concerns about the clinical finish in the final third since the players could only manage one or no goals for multiple matches. Sure, they could struggle against Houston. But hopefully, they will continue to score multiple goals.
7:30 PM ET, with an expected kickoff at 7:40 PM ET

This might be a good game to either rest Maxi Moralez or give him at least one half off. June might not be as congested as May, but since this week sees NYCFC play three times in seven days, it is a good idea to protect the veteran.
