New York City FC is less than a month away from the 2025 season. So far in the preseason, they are 1-0-1. As such, drawing 2-2 to Real Salt Lake and beating the La Galaxy 2-0 is a good start under Head Coach Pascal Jansen.
Of course, with the ongoing preseason, there is quite a bit going on for the Pigeons. Therefore, here is the next NYCFC news roundup.
NYCFC II's Taylor Calheira has left NYCFC II. The promising forward was transferred to FC Tulsa in the USL Championship. The Thursday announcement was a little surprising since the 2024 draft pick had a successful season with the MLS Next Pro team.
In all competitions, Calheira scored 17 goals and was on the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Best XI. His success was vital to NYCFC II's success, making the playoffs for the first time. He was also part of the side's magical run in the U.S. Open Cup, making it to the Round of 16.
His strong 2024 season should have given NYCFC a strong incentive to sign him. Moreover, if Calheira wanted to ensure playing time, then the club could have sent him out on loan for the upcoming season to a USL Championship team like Tulsa. That way, the Bronx side would have kept him at the club in the case he proved he can play at a higher level.
It is too bad that Calheira is leaving. He is someone to keep an eye on.
Over the last few days, a photo of the possible NYCFC home jersey for 2025 and 2026 has been making the rounds. If this is the jersey, then that means it has been leaked.
The picture is not perfect, but it shows different shades of blue with the team's usual blue that is used for the home kits. The pattern is also one that has not been used before. One thing of note is that the old badge is on the kit, so it is unknown whether the team will wait to use the new one, which many found to be a little unnecessary.
Fans will find out soon enough whether the badge will change when the new kit is officially released. Skyscraper Blues will take a further look at the new kit once that is done.
